BACILLUS SUBTILIS FOR THE CONTROL OF POWDERY MILDEW ON CUCUMBER AND ZUCCHINI SQUASH Bragantia
BETTIOL,WAGNER; GARIBALDI,ANGELO; MIGHELI,QUIRICO.
Application of concentrated metabolites of Bacillus subtilis - CMBS - (5,000 µg/mL) one and 24 h before or after inoculation of Sphaerotheca fuliginea (3 x 104 conidia/mL) reduced the number of lesions on cucumber leaves by 90-99%. The average number of lesions on control plants was 16.7 per leaf. A wettable powder product formulated with cells (10%) and metabolites (10%) of B. subtilis (WPBS), and CMBS sprayed on cucumber plants (1,000 µg/mL and 10,000 µg/mL) twice a week totally controlled powdery mildew. In the control treatment, 18 days after the first spray, the percent leaf surface covered by lesions was 99.0 and 46.7%, on the cotyledonary and expanded leaves, respectively. In the control treatment, 30 days after the first spray, the percent leaf...

Bacterial spot and early blight biocontrol by epiphytic bacteria in tomato plants PAB
Lanna Filho,Roberto; Romeiro,Reginaldo da Silva; Alves,Eduardo.
The objective of this work was to evaluate in vitro and in vivo biocontrol of bacterial spot (Xanthomonas vesicatoria) and early blight (Alternaria solani) by the epiphytic bacteria Paenibacillus macerans and Bacillus pumilus. Tomato plants were previously sprayed with epiphytic bacteria, benzalkonium chloride and PBS buffer and, after four days, they were inoculated with A. solani and X. vesicatoria. To determine the phytopathogenic bacteria population, leaflet samples were collected from each treatment every 24 hours, for seven days, and plated on semi-selective medium. The effect of epiphytic bacteria over phytopathogens was performed by the antibiosis test and antagonistic activity measured by inhibition zone diameter. The epiphytic and benzalkonium...

Benefits Associated with the Interaction of Endophytic Bacteria and Plants BABT
Santos,Miriam Langner dos; Berlitz,Diouneia Lisiane; Wiest,Shana Leticia Felice; Schünemann,Rogerio; Knaak,Neiva; Fiuza,Lidia Mariana.
ABSTRACT The endophytic bacteria belong to a larger group of microorganisms that have their life-cycle partly or entirely inside the plant and are located in intra and inter-cellular spaces or in the vascular tissue. These bacteria can be found colonizing aerial parts or roots. This review aims to analyze the colonization strategies of endophytic bacteria through interaction with plants, as well as to highlight the metabolic influence of these organisms in plant tissues, which result in physiological and biochemical changes. Depending on the different mechanisms used internally to colonize a plant, these microorganisms are called obligate, facultative, or passive endophytes. Phytostimulation, biofertilization and biological control are mechanisms that...

Bioassay for selection of biocontroller bacteria against bean common blight (Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli) BJM
Zanatta,Zarela G.C.N.; Moura,Andréa B.; Maia,Luciano C.; Santos,André S. dos.
Emphasis has been given on selection of micro-organism for biological control. However, in order to evaluate the biological control potential of a great number of micro-organisms in a small period of time it is necessary to develop an efficient bioassay. Seven hundred and sixty bacterial isolates from different habitats, were selected for compatibility with Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. phaseoli (SEMIA 4077 e SEMIA 4080). Among them 596 isolates were ineffective against both rhizobia. Bean seeds immersed in suspension of each one of these isolates were agitated for 5 hours at 10ºC and sowed in non-sterilized soil. The plants were kept in greenhouse. After the development of cotyledonary and primary leaves, these were removed and bioassayed for Xanthomonas...

Biochar and Trichoderma harzianum for the Control of Macrophomina phaseolina BABT
Araujo,Alyson Silva de; Blum,Luiz Eduardo Bassay; Figueiredo,Cícero Célio de.
Abstract This study is based on the importance of biological control methods and the lack of information on the effect of biochar (BCH) from sewage sludge associated or not with Trichoderma harzianum on the control of Macrophomina phaseolina in the bean crop (Phaseolus vulgaris, cv. BRS Estilo). Biochar from sewage sludge, pyrolyzed at 500 ºC and used in low concentration (0.5%), has a direct effect on the in vitro control of M. phaseolina. However, higher BCH concentrations stimulated the growth of the pathogen. In culture medium with or without BCH, T. harzianum (strain 1306) inhibited the mycelial growth of M. phaseolina. The addition of BCH + T. harzianum reduced the deleterious effects caused by M. phaseolina on bean plants. This study demonstrated...

Biochemical and morphological aspects of salivary glands of the predator Brontocoris tabidus (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) BABT
Azevedo,Dihego de Oliveira; Zanuncio,José Cola; Zanuncio Jr.,José Salazar; Martins,Gustavo Ferreira; Marques-Silva,Solange; Sossai,Marcos Franklin; Serrão,José Eduardo.
The aim of this work was to study the feeding habits of the predator Brontocoris tabidus (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) analyzing the salivary gland complex (SGC). The SGC was dissected and subjected to histological analyses and biochemical assays. Results showed that a pair of bilobed principal salivary glands and one pair of tubular accessory salivary glands form the SGC and different parts of salivary gland synthesizes similar substances. Lipases, a-amylase and trypsin-like enzymes were detected at both lobes of the principal salivary gland. These data together with observations related to the predator's diet suggested that it could be considered an obligate zoophytophagous.

Biocontrol of pigeon tick Argas reflexus (Acari: Argasidae) by entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium Anisopliae (Ascomycota: Hypocreales) BJM
Tavassoli,Mosa; Pourseyed,Seyed Hassan; Ownagh,Abdulghaffar; Bernousi,Iraj; Mardani,Karim.
The pigeon tick Argas reflexus is a pathogen-transmitting soft tick that typically feeds on pigeons, but can also attack humans causing local and systemic reactions. Chemical control is made difficult due to environmental contamination and resistance development. As a result, there is much interest in increasing the role of other strategies like biological control. In this study, the efficacy of three strains (V245, 685 and 715C) of entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae for biological control of three life stages of pigeon tick A. reflexus including eggs, larvae, engorged and unfed adults was investigated under laboratory conditions. Five concentrations of different strains of M. anisopliae ranging from 10³ to 10(7) conidia/ml were used. All...

Bioecologia e controle da broca pequena do tomateiro neoleucinodes elegantalis. Infoteca-e
